I wrote something

In Memory
------------------------
As the months slide past
I find myself losing
The detail of you.
Silken fur under my fingers
Warm bulk pressing my knee
Chin cradled in my lap.
How you would stare up at me
Brown eyes melting
As if I were the sun
In your universe.
--
Forgetting is not a blessing
Or an easing of the hurt.
It feels like a second death
Like losing you again
Letting you slip away.
Who will remember you if I cannot?
For you were my heart
My whole world.
Unless I keep you in thought
It will be as if you had never been.
--
So every time the tears return
I welcome them.
The aching emptiness
The stab of memory
Mean you are still here
If only as a dream
If only in my heart.
