Sleeping cute

Um.. you forgot something?

Tonight I was a little later than usual with the food bowls.  I was sitting at the table working, and I got the odd sensation that I was being watched.  Turned around and right behind my chair this is what I saw:

She had been lying there, just staring at me, for probably at least 5 minutes. Now remember, this is not a dog to whom "still" comes naturally!   Not sure if she was trying to kill me with the power of her brain or communicate psychically.  Or possibly just make me feel SOOOO GUILTY that I would feed her twice as much!  :)

So now we now she does do the same bear-rug pose that Kodo does- hopefully eventually we can teach her to do it on command as well.  Though maybe it should be bunny-rug for her since she isn't nearly big enough to be a bear? 

Forgot to mention..

..at the vet's office on Monday the bunny weighed in at 70 pounds, and the vet said she thought she was at a perfect weight.  So just a bit more than half of Kodo.  We are in the process of transitioning her to eat the same food Kodo does, so it will be a bit of trial and error to figure out how much of the new food we need to feed to keep her at a stable weight.  She is a LOT more active than K, so I won't be surprised if the amounts in the food bowl end up pretty close to each other.   She seems to like the new food (Acana) really well, though that doesn't mean much of anything since I have yet to see a Berner turn up their nose at ANYTHING remotely edible!  :)

She has taken to walking under Kodo and standing under his tummy when she is losing the play-wrestling matches.  She has figured out that he can't reach her to paw her there, and she can chew at his ruff as much as she likes.  I hope to get a picture of that someday- it is too cute for words!  Maybe we will someday be able to get them to do that on command too- right now we are working on synchronized 'turning'.

Guess the new dog bed was a bad idea.  The bunny did some celebrating of her own last night after we went to bed:

Or maybe the problem was that the covering was too much like her fleecy stuffie toys?  Either way, it gets put away for a couple year..  :)

New bed!

Bought a great orthopedic foam dog bed with a fleecy cover.  Brought it home and placed it where the crate used to be.

And where are the dogs currently sleeping?

Funny!  Guess this is like buying a kid a toy only to find out that they vastly prefer the cardboard box it came in?  :)

Vet trip and fun dog-errands

Today was the bunny's first visit to our vet.  She got a bunch of shot updates and got a blood draw for heartworm test.  She was an angel during all the needles, and our vet loved her.  Even though she has shown no symptoms, her sample tested positive for giardia- only small amounts- but because of her history the vet recommended putting her on meds for it again to be sure. 

We next took both dogs to our locally owned dog bakery and store- the Grateful Dog Bakery.  They both had a lot of fun, got lots of pets and love, and got some special fresh-baked cookie treats for later.  Finished the errands off by swinging by PetSmart to get new name and contact tags made up.

Once we got home Brian took her for a quick run, then Kodo for a cool-down walk.  They are now both exhausted!

It is official..

..we are now a two-dog family.  We met with the bunny's family today, talked and signed papers.  It was obviously a very hard decision for them, but they felt that it was the best decision for her.  I want to thank them for trusting us with their precious girl- she has become a family member for us in the three weeks we have had her, and we will do our best to make her life the best we possibly can going forward.  More adventures ahead- stay tuned!

I was checking the dates, and it was almost exactly a year from Weeble-kitty's passing that we met the bunny for the first time at the Monster Mutt race.  Call me sentimental, but I think Weeble might have had a paw in making things come together the way they did- too much of a coincidence otherwise.  :)

We have decided to change the bunny's name to Tali.  It fits with our pet naming theme, and sounds similar enough to Rylee that she should transition pretty easily.
