Playing spit-head

When they are inside, they spend a lot of time playing like this.  Really funny to watch.

New tool

Anytime one of us ended up having both leashes, even standing still, it was a bit of a challenge since it seemed like both dogs go in opposite directions as soon as the leashes change hands.  So I ended up getting a leash coupler that has a hook on either end to hook to both collars, and then a ring in the middle to attach the leash to.  Went for  walk around the block, just me and the two dogs.  The new coupler worked beautifully!  Rylee was a bit ahead, but she wasn't pulling, just walking in the front.  Everyone was happy, and I was able to hold them both with no trouble at all.

Walk in the metroparks

Took the pups to the Cleveland Metroparks for a quick walk today. Hoping this will lead to some sleepy puppies come morning time. Chances are they will sleep early evening and catch their second wind at 5am.  Right now we're in the car and they are looking zonked.

Tired puppy

Sleeping in the kitties' sunbeams.

Grooming

Rylee had a couple behind-the-ear tangles and seemed to be a little twitchy about having her feet handled, so I decided after she was all tired out was the perfect time to do some puppy-hygiene.  I was able to groom almost all the tangles out from behind her ears and get both front paws' nails trimmed, and she was amazingly good about it.  A few sticks of Pupperoni made things a lot easier too.  :)

Worn out!

Kodo says "Sisters are a LOT of work!!"

The saga of the stuffie

In the last couple days, the fleecy pillow stuffie has become a favorite.  Unfortunately, this means that the fleecy pillow stuffie has developed several holes and has started leaking stuffing.  Time for a trip to the hospital!  Here, everyone waiting anxiously to hear the prognosis.  Even the cat, for some reason.

The stuffie survived!  Rylee took it out for a test spin first.

But Kodo really wanted to chew it too!

So he grabbed it away and ran.  Rylee quickly followed.

After much discussion, finally they were able to agree to share.

Dinner time

We managed to get the pups up to Zoup with just enough time to eat out in the cold before the sleet started.  Zoup is definitely going to be less do-able going forward- I have a funny feeling they will be packing away their patio furniture soon.  :)

Playtime with Kodo

So today I stayed home with the pups.  When we brought Rylee home, Kodo was always the one who was doing the play bowing to instigate some romp time.  Rylee was still getting used to the new scenery and was pretty tentative with playing with Kodo.  Well, today I got the chance to see Rylee's playful side.

Looks like Rylee has some bugs on her back 'cuz she was rolling over on the grass.  It almost looks playful, but think maybe she was doing it to scratch an itch.  Kodo was confused, and had to check it out.

...and after playtime, they decided to rest on the patio.  Seems like Rylee is adjusting quite well so far and it's only day two.

Also, today I did another test run.  I left the two in the house alone.  I noticed that Rylee had already did her business outside, so I decided to give her the run of the house with Kodo instead of baby-gating her in the morning room.  I left for only a couple of house and got back with the house the way I left it and the cats all still alive.  So, I call that a successful test.  Maybe I might try a little longer tomorrow.

Alone test and a new trick!

Did a test run- tired both dogs out then left for about 2 hours to go to dinner with friends.  Left both dogs gated into the one mostly dog-proofed room.  Came home to no problems, both dogs happy to see us.  So, baby steps!

Also accidentally managed to teach a new trick.  Kodo stands still, and Ryleee walks under his stomach on a 'through' command.  Pretty funny.  :)

Dog hike/run

Weather was beautiful, so we took the dogs up to Peninsula to the park.  Brian took Kodo on a hike with my dad, my sister, and two of her dogs, and I took Rylee for a mini-run on the same trail.  Went really slow to try things out, every time she lagged behind I switched to walking and every time she surged ahead I jogged again.  We covered about 2 miles total, and she was good-tired but not exhausted at the end.

Best thing..

..about chewing a bone is when you can get someone with opposable thumbs to hold it for you!

Kodo-sister trial

We have a second Berner in the house this week!  She is a 1.5-ish year old girl, one blue eye, about 65 or 70 pound (which looks amazingly tiny next to Kodo!  :)   ).  We are doing a trial to see if she gets along ok with us, our schedules, Kodo, and the cats, with plans to adopt her if everything works out OK and the current owners give us the thumbs-up at the end of that time.  Brian has a week off work, so it will make for a good transitioning period too.

She has settled in really well in just one day, coming up to us for attention, giving kisses, and even asking for tummy rubs a time or two.  She is a little afraid of the Kimi-cat- Kimi hissed and swatted at her when she was trying to cat-sniff, so I don't think they will ever be buddies.  Kim and Kodo are the same way though, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.  Pippin-cat keeps trying to be friends with her, but she veers off every time he gets too close.. She has gotten the hang of inside and outside very well, seems to enjoy exploring the yard.  She likes the crate we set up, and under the kitchen table- seems to prefer 'caves'.

Monster Mutt 2013

We do MM every year as a family- great cause (Berea Animal Rescue) and a really fun race and party!  Bri and I usually alternate who runs and who walks (since Kodo just can't do 5K).  This year we were both too injured still for the 5K and my dad was having foot injury issues too, so I walked K and Brian walked my sister's Havanese in the 1-miler while my brother ran by himself, my sister and brother-in-law ran with their hound mixes, and my mom and dad watched with Daffie-collie on the sidelines.  Great weather this year- not too hot or too cold.  Hoping next year will be a PR for me- my new goal.  :)
